Dear Sister in Islam,
The answer to your question is as follows:

Zakaat is obligatory for a sane, adult and free Muslim/Muslimah who possesses the Nisab, free from his/her initial needs and debt, for a whole lunar year whether one possesses the same by one¡¯s own earning, gifts or any other lawful sources. Therefore, if the above-mentioned lady possesses the amount referred to for a complete lunar year then she is liable to pay 2.5% of that amount in Zakaat and she is not permitted to take any more Zakaat. (Raddul-Muhtaar Ala Durril-Mukhtaar, Kitabuzzakaat 2/7)

It should be kept in mind that paying so much Zakaat to a poor or needy person that reaches the Nisab, is Makrooh when the person is not in debt nor has large family. But if a person is indebted or has large family then such person can be given Zakaat to an extent that after paying his/her debt or distributing the amount on family members none of them will be liable to pay Zakaat. (Ibid 74)

And Allah knows the best,
