Question By : Anwar shah (USA)

Assalamu Alaikum
Sheikh I have one question to ask, I went to dawah and one guy came up to me and asked for some money but he was not a Muslim. I asked him that what he was going to do with the money, he replied that he was going to buy a cigarette to smoke. Is ok to give money to people like him, but he was begging to me for that. Can you please give advice on this topic.

With regards
Anwar shah (USA)

Dear Brother in Islam

Whatever is injurious to health, life, and intelligence is forbidden. Smoking or intoxicating drugs cause harm to health as well as to intelligence and they are therefore unlawful. Allah says in the Holy Qur'an, ''O people! Eat the lawful and good things out of what is in the earth.(ch.2 v.57)
The Holy Qur'an prohibits us to help anyone in bad practice and sins. The Qur'an says, ''Help ye not one another in sin and rancour''. And, therefore you are not allowed to give him money for smoking.
It is Haram for you. Tell him hazards and dangers of smoking, exhort him to leave this practice and bring him near to Islam with wisdom. Make Du'a for him also to abstain from it and to follow the only true guidance of Islam.
Allah knows best Thanking You
