Assalamu Alaikum

Please guide me in the followings
1) We have a sheikh in our musjid. Once I asked him about the masah on socks, he replied me that we can do on our normal socks. Is it so?

Dear Sister in Islam

Masah on Khuffain (leather socks) is permissible by many of Ahaadeeth. Masah on non-leather socks is also allowed if they have the following conditions.

1. The socks must be strong enough to walk with them for three miles without the socks tearing.
2. The socks must remain in position covering the foreleg. They should not slip. Socks having elastic to hold them in position will be regarded as being tied.
3. Water must not sweep through.
4. The socks must not be transparent or even semi-transparent.
(Rad-dul Muhtaar vol.: 1 p: 191)

If any one of these four conditions is lacking, Masah on such socks will not be permissible. The non-leather socks - woolen, nylon, etc. generally-made nowadays do not gather all the afore-mentioned conditions. It is, therefore, not permissible to make Masah on them.
