Mufti Sahab,
What is the literal meaning of Lailatul Qadr?I wish to know if 15th shabban is also Lailatul Qadar
& last 10 nights of Ramzaan (the odd nos) are also Lailatul Qadr when purpose is same , but events are different, then why are both called by the same name? Purpose I mean if you do Ibadat whole night your sins are forgiven on 15th Shabban & also the ramzaan nights. But in Shabban your fate is checked by angels who will die etc.etc.--&in Ramzaan the lailatul qadar night is the night when The Quran verses were sent down to mankind. Please clear my confusion. Jazak Allah.

The answer of your question is as follows:

The month of Shaban has a great value in Islam particularly the 15th night of Shaban. This night is known as Lailatul Bara¡¯at (the night of freedom). Allah almighty makes the sinners free from the fire of hell in this very night except some people such as polytheist, disobedient to the parents, malicious, drunker, one who kills other without any prescribed reason, one who wears so long pent that crosses the ankle and so on. (Ibne Maja) This night the detail report of creature for the coming year is handled to the angels and they submit the report of last year to Allah almighty.

As far as the Lailatul Qadr (the night of power) is concerned, it is an odd night amongst the last ten nights of Ramazan. There are different opinions of Ulama to verify the night of Qudr but according to the well-known statement; Lailatul Qadr is the 27th night of Ramzan. The Glorious Qur¡¯aan says about the significance of this night, ¡°We have indeed revealed this (message) in the night of power: and what will explain to thee what the night of power is? The night of power is better than a thousand months. Therein come down the angels and the Spirit by Allah¡¯s permission, on every errand: Peace! This until the rise of morn!¡± (Suratul Qadr: 97 V: 1-5) However, the 15th Shaban is called Lailatul Bara¡¯at and the odd night amongst the last ten nights of Ramazan is known as Lailatul Qadr.
