Assalamu Alaikum

My dear respected elder in islam,
Here in our country health insurance is a basic need. Is health insurance allowed in Islam or not. What if my wife is pregnant and the hospitals are very expansive if she require a surgery and she does have a health insurance then she probably will have to pay $40,000 or $50,000 for the surgery. And if not then she has to pay as much as the hospital asks for that. We don't have that much amount of money to pay; so I need your advice can you explain the shariah status in this regard.

Dear brother in Islam

Wa'laikumus-salaam

Since Insurance contains many a forbidden elements, it is generally, not allowed in Islam. Yes in some circumstances where a man is in dire need of it and he cannot do without it, he is allowed to benefit from it until that need is gone. In your case you are allowed to benefit from Health insurance.

Thanking You
