In the name of Allah the All Gracious the All Merciful
Assalamo Alaikum,
Dear in Islam,
The answer of your question is as follows:

It is Wajib (necessary to follow) for every wife, whether young or old, whose husband has passed away leaving her behind widow to observe the Iddah of widowhood. Beside this Iddah, mourning and respecting for the deceased husband by leaving all the kind of beauty and ornament, fragrance, oil, antimony and so on is also Wajib for the adult widow. The Prophet of Islam (SAW) is reported as having said, ˇ°It is not permissible for a woman who believes in Allah and in the Day of Judgment to mourn over a dead person more than three days except the mourning on her husband for four month and ten days.ˇ± (Bukhari & Muslim, Mishkaat 288-89)

The Iddah differs from woman to woman. For normal women, who are not pregnant, the Iddah is four lunar month and ten days. Allah almighty says in the Glorious QurˇŻaan: If any of you die and leave widows behind; they shall wait concerning themselves four month and ten daysˇˇ± (Baqra 2: V: 234) And the Iddah of pregnant is delivery. The Glorious QurˇŻaan says, ˇ°For those who are pregnant, their period is until they deliver their burdens: and for those who fear Allah, He will make things easy for themˇ±. (Suratut-Talaaq: 65 V: 4)

All the difficulties will vanish and the delicate matters will be settled for the greatest happiness for one who has true and sincere desire to obey the will of Allah almighty. And Allah will reward such person handsomely both in this world and the hereafter. As He says in the Glorious QurˇŻaan:

ˇ°And if anyone fears Allah, He will remove his evil deeds from him, and will enlarge His reward.ˇ± (Talaaq: 65 V: 5)

ˇ°He that obeys Allah and His Messenger, has already attained the great victory.ˇ± (Suratul-Ahzaab: 33 V: 71)

One who transgresses the limits of Allah by neglecting His commandments and the teachings of His Messenger must receive the glad tiding of severe chastisement. The Glorious QurˇŻaan calls such people Zaalim in its inimitable style saying, ˇ° And any who transgresses the limits of Allah, does verily wrong his (own) soul: you know not if perchance Allah will being about thereafter some new situationˇ±. (Suratut-Talaaq: 65 V: 1)

It is to be noticed that Allah almighty is the Most Merciful and He forgives one who turns towards Him with sincere repentance after transgressing the limit. He says in the Glorious QurˇŻaan, ˇ°Say: ˇ°O my servants who have transgressed against their souls! Despair not of the mercy of Allah: for Allah forgives all sins: for He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.ˇ± (Suratuz-Zumor: 39 V: 53) Therefore, the women who did not observer the Iddah must turn towards Allah with sincere repentance.
