Respected Mufty Sahib
Assalamu Alikum
I have a question in regards to the machine operated knife which is used to slaughter animal.
One method is the common type of machine slaughter that a rotating knife/ mechanical blade is used. This machine is turned on and cuts the necks of the chickens continuously until it is turned off. Most Muftis have given fatwa regarding this type of machine slaughter.
There is another type of machine which is also used at some slaughterhouses and is different from the machine commonly used. This machine has a button which is pressed down by a Muslim slaughterer who says Bismillah. The machine will only operate when the Muslim holds down the button. The Bismillah is recited by the slaughter man continuously as long as he is holding the button and this method is only applied on the missed chicken which happens only on 1 or 2 in 100 chicken separately because missing more than 1 chicken at one time is rare or impossible. The actual slaughtering is done by Muslim men holding the chickena€?s neck and using the regular knife along with reciting the Bissmillah.

In the name of Allah the most Gracious the most Merciful
The answer to your question is as follows:
The majority of the jurists (fuqaha) have stipulated that the pronouncement of Allah¡¯s name (tasmiyah) must be on each and every individual animal, and that there should not be a major separation between the Tasmiyah and slaughter.
As such, pronouncing the name of Allah Most High when switching the machine or holding down the button on will not render all the chickens to be lawful (halal). The reason being is that the one who pronouncing the name of Allah with holding down baton can not pronouncing it on each and every individual animal because there are thousands of chickens that are slaughtered in the machine, thus it is impossible that the name of Allah is pronounced on each and every individual chicken. The one who is blessing the chicken must not move for even one moment or take his eye of the machine, for if he failed to pronounce the name of Allah on even one chicken, it will become unlawful .Even if he did take all reasonable measures to pronounce the name of Allah on every chicken, it is virtually impossible, given the magnitude of chickens that are slaughtered.
In light of the above, it is very difficult to say that birds and chickens that are slaughtered mechanically on above mentioned type are absolutely lawful (halal),
Renowned scholar, Shaykh justice Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani (may Allah preserve him) has mentioned the solution in his Arabic article Ahkam al-Zabaih and in his English book Contemporary Fatawa: He states:
¡°The only solution of such problem is that instead of one person, more Muslims be employed to cut the throats of chicken by hand. They can slaughter the hanging chicken, alternatively. The speed of the machine need not be slowed down, nor does the production need to be reduced. Each one of these three persons will cut the throats of chickens by pronouncing the name of Allah¡±.(And Allah Knows The Best)<
