Dear Brother in Islam,
The answer to your question is as follows:

To draw the picture of a living being such as human being and animal, either by hand, pen, machine or any other way, is forbidden in Islam. But drawing the picture of inanimate trees for example, picture of headless animates and tiny pictures which deserves no respect like the pictures on money are permissible. It is narrated on the authority of Hazrat Sayeed Ibne Abil Hasan that he was with Ibne Abbas (RA) when a person came to him and said, ¡°O Ibne Abbas! My substance is from my manual profession and I make theses pictures¡±. Ibne Abbas said, ¡°I will tell you only what I heard from Allah¡¯s Apostle. I heard him saying, ¡°Whoever makes a picture will be punished by Allah till he puts life in it¡±. Hearing this, the man heaved a sigh and his face turned pale. Ibne Abbas said to him, ¡°What a pity! If you insist on making pictures I advise you to make pictures of trees and any other unanimated objects¡±. (Bukhari Bab Bai-e-Ttasaweer¡Vol: 1 Page: 296)

Most of the pictures published on news paper, magazine, advertisement and poster are so naked that a sound minded person feels shame to look at the news paper and magazine, particularly in front of his children and in presence of others. Besides, these pictures cause nothing but disaster for humankind and social decadence to a level lower than that of animals, as it is observed each day.

As far as the matter of your brother is concerned, he many not be directly involved in drawing pictures but he plays a key role to let the pictures come in public. And assisting someone in evil is as similar as one who commits it. The Glorious Qur¡¯an says, ¡°Verily, there is a painful punishment in this world and the next for those who like that immorality should spread among the believers¡±. (Suratun-Noor 24: 19)The Prophet of Islam (SAWS) is reported as to have said, ¡°One who calls people towards good deed will get the same reward as those who follow him and do good; and nothing will be diminished from the requital of the latter. Similarly one who calls people towards wrong deed will have the same punishment as those who follow him without any diminution in the punishment of the perpetrators¡±. (Muslim Shareef Vol: 2 Page: 341)

Therefore, the job may be healthy and interesting for your brother but being a Muslims he should turn towards Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta¡¯alah with sincere repentance of the evil act he has been committing, and leave it as soon as he gets a better alternative. The Glorious Qur¡¯an says, ¡°It is not fitting for a believer, man and woman, when a matter has bee decided by Allah and His Apostle, to have any option about their decision: if any one disobeys Allah and His Apostle, he is indeed on a clearly wrong path¡±. (Suratul-Ahzaan 33: 36) Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta¡¯ala also says, ¡°Say: O, My slaves who have transgressed against their souls! Despair not of the mercy of Allah: for Allah forgives all sins: for He is Often-Forgiving, Most Merciful.¡± (Suratuz-Zumar 39 V: 53)
