Assalamo Alaikum
Dear brother in Islam,
The answers to your questions are as follows:

1) One should know the types of Hajj before performing. Since, each type of Hajj differs from other in some rules and regulations. The types are stated herein:

Hajj is of three kinds: Ifraad, Qiraan and Tamattu¡¯.

a) Ifraad is to put on the special pilgrim garb (Ihraam) with the intention of performing only Hajj.

b) Qiraan is to perform Umarah first in the months of Hajj (Shawwal, Zul¡ªqa¡¯da, and the first eight days of Zul-hijja) and then perform Hajj with the same Ihraam. (One will remain in Haram of Makka in the state of Ihraam from the moment one enters Meeqaat (places marked out on different sides of the city of Makka which can not pass by a pilgrim coming for the Hajj or Umrah from a place lying beyond them without putting on the Ihraam) until the Ihraam is put off on the 10th Zil Hijjah.

c) Tamattu¡¯ is to perform Umrah first in the months of Hajj and then put off the Ihraam. After that to perform Hajj with another Ihraam in the same year without returning home.

How to perform Ifraad
One who wants to perform only Hajj, before entering the Meeqaat, should get the hair of head shaved, remove hair from below the navel and arm-pits, clip nails, intercourse with wife if possible and then take bath or make ablution for putting on Ihraam. After that, take out (men) stitched clothes and wear two white pieces of cloth; one for the lower portion of the body and the other for the upper portion leaving the head and face uncovered. No other garments should be worn. The footwear should not cover the center bones of the upper part of the feet. Women will put on their normal clothes covering the heads. The face and the hand up to wrists could be exposed if they do not fear Fitna. Otherwise, faces must be covered in a way that the covering does not touch the face like cloaks etc. Apply perfume on the body and clothes. Men should apply colourless perfume, while women should apply fragranceless perfume/cream provided such perfume¡¯s stains do not exist on clothes after applying. Then perform two Rak¡¯aah Sunnatul Ihraam with the headgear. After reciting Fateha, recite Suratul-Kaafiroon in first Rak¡¯aah and Suratul-Ikhlaas in second Rak¡¯aah. This Salaah should not be offered during the forbidden and Makrooh times such as sunrise, Zawaal, sunset and after Asr Salaah. A woman who is not in the state of performing Salaah will not perform this Sunnah. She will perform Ghusl. After making Salaam, make Niyyah of Ihraam just sitting on the mat with bare head (for men) facing the Qiblah and pronounce:

¡°Allah Humma Innee Ureedul-Hajja Fayassirhu li Wa Taqabblhu Minnee¡±

Thereafter, recite Talbiah thrice in a loud voice and women silently:

¡°Allahumma Labbaika. La Sharika Laka. Labbaika, Innal Hamda Wan Ne¡¯mata Laka Wal Mulka. La Sharika Laka¡±

After making Niyyah and reciting Talbiah, one becomes a Muhrim (one whose Ihraam is valid). When in Ihraam, recite Talbiah as often as possible particularly when situation changes such as time of riding and alighting, climbing a high place and going down, in morning, at the time of awaking, when meeting someone and after every Salaah. Before entering Haram, no other deed is necessary to carry out except one should be mindful of things forbidden in the state of Ihraam. A Muhrim should abstain from the following:

# Quarrelling, transgressing and using offensive languages
# Clipping nails
# Hunting of wildlife, asking or helping a hunter in anyway, chasing, destroying the eggs or taking adventage of wildlife at any cost
# Killing lice, indicating it to others and removing it form the body or hair
# Using perfume, scent and every other thing that has a fragrance, eg. fragrant soap etc
# Trimming, shaving or clipping hair from any part of the body
# Rubbing body in a way that hair falls off is Makrooh
# Intercourse and everything relating or leading to it
# Men must not wear stitched garments, underwear, gloves or socks. They should never cover their heads and faces
# Combing hair and beard is Makrooh
# Washing ones head and beard with soap and removing dirt from body by using soap or any other cleansing means is also Makrooh
# It is Makrooh to stitch the loincloth from front
# It is Makrooh to tie the covering sheet round the neck, tie the sheet and the loincloth with a knot, pin them together or tie them with thread etc.
# Smelling perfume intentionally is Makrooh
# It is Makrooh to tie a strip of cloth round the body with the exception of head and mouth without any necessity.
# It is Makrooh to let the covering cloth of Ka¡¯aba touch one¡¯s head or face
# It is Makrooh to lie face-ward on the pillow
On reaching Makkatul Mukarramh, one should find, first, accommodation and settle. Thereafter take bath without using soap or make Wudhu and enter the Musjidul Haraam with utmost humility and respect, preferably, through Babus Salaam. Enter with the right foot and recite after Talbiah: Alllahumma iftah li Abwaba Rahmatik. A woman who is not in the state of performing Salaah, should not enter the Musjid. On sighting Ka¡¯abah recite: ¡°Allahu Akar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar Laa Ilaha Illallahu Wallahu Akbar¡±. Make Du¡¯a and recite: ¡°Allahumma Zid Baitaka Haza Tashreefan Wa Takreema Wa Ta¡¯zima Wa Barra¡±. One should pray for one¡¯s own well-fare or desires. It is appreciable to pray for getting paradise after death and protection from the punishment of grave. After that move to Hajr-e-Aswad reciting Talbiah and perform Tawaf-e-Qudoom. If a Farz, Wajib or Sunnate Mu¡¯akkadah Salaah still remains to be performed, then this should be offered before commencing the Tawaf. After this Tawaf, if someone wants to do, immediately, Sa¡¯ee as well. Then, before commencing Tawaf, make Iztibaa¡¯ (covering of the body in a manner that the left shoulder, left arm and back are covered and the right arm entirely exposed. Discontinue with the Iztibaa¡¯ after the Tawaaf has been completed) and make Ramal (walking hastily, take shorter steps, lifting the legs forcefully, keeping the chest out and moving the shoulders simultaneously, and this for men only) in the first three circuits of Tawaf. After making Iztibaa¡¯, face the Ka¡¯bah in a manner that the entire Hajar-e-Aswad remains on your right and the left shoulder towards Rukne Yamaanee. Stand as close as possible to the Hajare Aswad and make Niyyah of Tawaf. Say verbally: ¡°Allahumma Innee Ureedu Tawafa Baitikal-Haraam Sab¡¯ata Ashwaatin, Fyassirhu Li Wa Taqabbalhu Minnee¡±. Move sideways so that the Hajre Aswad comes in front and raising both hands up to the ears as one does when beginning Salaah, say, ¡°Bismillahi Allahu Akbar Laa Ilaaha Illallahu Wa Lillahil Hamd Wassalatu Wassalamo Ala Rasulillah. Allahumma Imanam Bika Wa Tasdiqam Bikitabika Wa Wafaan Bia¡¯hdika Wattibaan Lisunnati Nabiyek Muhammadin Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam¡±. Lower the hands and make Istilaam of the Hajare Aswad; place both hands on the Hajare Aswad and kiss it gently thrice between the two palms. Hands should not be placed on the silver ring when kissing the Hajare Aswad. If Istilaam is not possible, merely place the hands on the Hajre Aswad. If this is also not possible, then one should stand diametrically opposite the Hajre Aswad and stretch both the hands, with the palms facing the Hajare Aswad (as if one were placing them on it). Thereafter kiss the hands and commence the Tawaf. If this is also not possible, touch Hajare Aswad with a piece of wood or anything else and then kiss the wood. If this is also not possible, then merely raise the hands to the ears in such a way that the back of hands is towards face and say the Takbeer thinking that the hands are on the Hajare Aswad and then kiss the hands. But never harass, push or hurt anyone in the process. If one does not want to do Sa¡¯ee, immediately, after Tawafe Qudoom, then one should not make Iztibaa¡¯ and Ramal nor recite Talbiah after commencing Tawaf. Make Istilaam of Hajare Aswad and move towards the right side keeping Ka¡¯bah and Hateem towards one¡¯s left shoulder and should not walk between them. On reaching Rukne Yamaanee place both the palms or right one on it but do not kiss it nor indicate to it with hands in case of huge crowds or inconvenience. When coming to Hajare Aswad touch it again with one or both hands without kissing. This will be one round. In the same way seven circuits should be completed. At the end of seventh circuit, kiss again Hajare Aswad and then the Tawaf is complete. Afterward, move reciting ¡°Wattakhizu Mim-Maqaame Ibraheema Musallah¡± towards Maqaame Ibraheem, which stands, on eastern side of Baitullah near Mataaf (the area where Tawaf is performed). Offer two Rak¡¯aat Wajib Salaah with covering of arms, preferably, behind Maqaame Ibraheem or around. Recite Suratul Kafiroon in first Rak¡¯aat and Ikhlaas in second Rak¡¯aat after reciting Fatiha. Now, one should proceed to the Multazam, the area between the elevated door of the Ka¡¯aba and the Hajare Aswad. Embrace this place by stretching both the hands above the head and clinging to the wall of the Ka¡¯aba and make Du¡¯a. After Du¡¯a, one should go to the well of Zam-Zam and drink as much water as possible in three sips standing and facing the Qbilah. Shower some water on oneself as well. Recite the following Du¡¯a after drinking Zam-Zam:
¡°Allahumma Innee Asaluka Ilman-Nafia¡¯a Wa Rizqan-Wasia¡¯a Wa Amalan-Saliha Wa Shifaam-Min Kulli Daa.¡±

After drinking Zam-Zam, make Istilaam of Hajare Aswad and come out through Babussafa. Place left foot first and recite, ¡°Allahummaghfirli Zunoobee Waftahli Abwaba Fazlik.¡± On reaching near Safa, recite, ¡°Abdau Bima Badaallahu Bihi Innassafa Wal Marwata Min Sha¡¯ayrillah.¡± Climb one third of Safa and facing the Qiblah, raise the hands parallel to the shoulders as they are raised during Du¡¯a, and then say the Takbeer, Tahleel and Hamd three times in loud voice (men) and recite Durood Sharif in low tone. Make a lot of Du¡¯a there. After the Du¡¯a, climb down the rock and move towards Marwa walking at normal pace. On reaching Batnul Waadi (the area between the two green columns and fluorescent lights), perform Sa¡¯ee (slow running). Thereafter walk at normal pace again. The females will not do the slow running between the two green columns. On reaching Marwah, do exactly the same as was done at Safa. Read the following Du¡¯a between Safa and Marwah:

¡°Rabbighfir Warham Wa Antal- Aa¡¯zzul-Akram¡±.

Coming from Safa to Marwah is considered one Shawt (circuit), and returning to Safa another. Complete all seven Shawats in this manner; beginning the first Shawt at Safa and completing the seventh Shawt at Marwah. Do not forget to perform Sa¡¯ee at Batnul Waadi in each Shawt. After completing seven Shawt (circuit) perform two Rak¡¯aat Nafil Salaah in the boundary of Mataaf. After completing Tawaf-e-Qudoom and Sa¡¯ee, one should stay at Makka in the state of Ihraam. Perform as many Tawafe Ka¡¯aba as possible and avoid all prohibited and execrable things and acts. And do not perform Umrah. On seventh Zilhijja, listen to the sermon, if delivered by Imam. On eight Zilhijja, after sun rising, reach Mina at a time that the Zuhar Salaah can be offered there at its Mustahab time. Stay at Mina for the night and offer five obligatory Salaah there e.g. Zuhar, Asr, Maghrib, Isha of 8th and Fajr of 9th Zilhijja. On 9th Zilhijja go to Arafat from Mina through Zub reciting Talbiah and Takbeer, after Fajr Salaah. On seeing Jabl-e-Rahmaat, a hill of Arafat, recite Takbeer, Talbiah, Durood Shareef and make Du¡¯a. Stay near Masjid-e-Namrah and having meal, take bath before mid-day. After that, go to the Masjid and listen to sermon of Imam. After the Khutbah, Azan for Salaah will be called and Zuhar and Asr Salaah will be performed at the time of Zuhar jointly in such a way that after two Raka¡¯at of Zuhar, Takbeer is called again and then Asr Salaah will be performed. Immediately, after Salaah, go to Arafaat and stay as near Jable Rahmaat as possible. But do not climb the Jable. Facing the Qiblah stand on the place where you are staying. Sitting and sleeping are also permitted. Listen to the Khutabh and engage in Dau¡¯a up to sunset. After sunset, return to Muzdalifa via Mazmin following the Imam and do not stay in the way. On reaching the out-skirts of Muzdalifa, get down from the conveyance and enter Muzdalifa walking on food. At Muzdalifa, the Maghrib and Isha Salaah will be offered jointly with one Azan and one Takbeer at the time of Isha. No other Salaah should be performed between these Salaah. The Sunnah of Mughrib and Isha as well as Witr should be offered after Isha Salaah. It is apriciatable to keep awake all the night, in Muzdalifa offering Nafl Salaah, reciting the Glorious Qur¡¯aan and doing other prayer. At dawn when it is still dark, offer Fajr Salaah following Imam if possible, otherwise individually. After performing Salaah, facing the Qiblah recite Talbiah, Tasbeeh and engage in Du¡¯a raising hands to the heavens. Before sunrise, proceed for Mina very patiently and humbly reciting Talbiah and remembering Allah. On reaching Wadi-e-Muhssar, pass it running or at a fast speed if in conveyances. Before moving from Muzdalifa, collect seven pebbles of the size of a horse gram. These pebbles should not be collected from a dirty place. After reaching Mina, go near through middle way to the last Jamarah (the symbolic stone). Stand to a distance of more than five feets from the Jamrah in such a way that Mina is on your right side and Makka on the left. Pick up the pebbles with thumb and forefinger of right hand and throw it at the Jamarah. Stop reciting Talbiah on first pebble and recite, ¡°Bismillahi Allahu Akbar, Raghman lish-Shaitani Wa Rizan Lir-Rahmaan¡±, when throwing every pebble. Raise hand while throwing pebbles to an extent that the armpit exposes. After stoning, sacrifice should be offered but this offering is not Wajib for Mufrid, and then get the hair of head shaved or trimmed, but shaving is preferable. The women should cut their hair equal to a finger¡¯s tip. After stoning, offering sacrifice and shaving of head, go to Makka the same day and perform Tawaf-e-Ziarah. Make Ramal as well as Iztiba¡¯a if did not make in Tawafe Qudoom. Thereafter, return to Mina. Now Ihraam is removed and reciting of Talbiah is stopped. All the things and acts, which had become prohibited because of Ihraam, become permissible even sexual intercourse and use of perfume. On 11th, 12th and 13th as well if one wants to stay in Mina, the Ramee of all the three Jamrat is performed. On each day, seven pebbles after Zawal are pelted on each Jamrah. After having performed Ramee, return to Makka and stay for a while at Mohassab and pray. Now the Hajj is complete. When one intends to depart from Makka, should perform tawaf-e-Wida. After performing the Tawaf, one should go to Zamzam well and drink its water to heart¡¯s content. Then one should kiss the raised threshold of Baitullah and go to Multazam to kiss and embrace it. While clinging to Multazam, one should weep, repent and lament. Then kissing the Hajre Aswad, one should retreat facing the Ka¡¯bah through Babul Wada¡¯ and looking with intense longing, grief and sorrow come out of Harame Ka¡¯ba. Give money in charity to poor and needy and make Du¡¯a. A woman who is not in the state of offering Salaah will not perform this Tawaf and standing on Babul Wada¡¯ without entering the Masjid, she will make Du¡¯a.

How to perform Qiraan
Put on Iharaam in the months of Hajj after taking bath performing all other things which a Mufrid does. After that, perform two Rak¡¯aah Sunnatul Ihraam with headcovering. After making Salaam, make Niyyah of Ihraam just sitting on the mat with bare head facing the Qiblah and pronounce, ¡°Allahummah Innee Ureedul-Umrata Wal-Hajja Fa Yassirhuma Lee Wa Taqabblhuma Minnee. Allahumma Labaik, Innal-Hamda Wan-Nia¡¯mata Laka Wal-Mulk, Laa Sharikalak.¡± Once again say, ¡°Labbaika Bihajjatin Wa Umrah, Allahumma Labbaika ¡¡±. All the other Ahkaam (rules and regulations) of Ihram are similar to that of Mufrid. But after performing the Sa¡¯ee for Umarah, do not get the hair of head shaved or trimmed. Perform Tawafe Qudoom and Sa¡¯ee for Hajj. After that, stay in Makka in the state of Ihraam. On 8th Zilhijja, go to Mina, on 9th to Arafaat as Mufrid does. On tenth, return to Mina, perform the Ramee of Jamaratul-Ukhba and offer sacrifice. After pelting, offering sacrifice, get the hair of head shaved or trimmed, but shaving is preferable. The women should cut their hair equal to a finger¡¯s tip. Thereafter, go to Makka the same day and perform Tawaf-e-Ziarah, and return to Mina. Now the Ihraam is removed and reciting of Talbiah is stopped. All the things and acts which had become prohibited on account of Ihraam become permissible even sexual intercourse and use of perfume. On 11th, 12th and 13th as well if one stays in Mina, the Ramee of all the three Jamrat on each day after Zawal is performed. On each day, seven pebbles are pelted on each Jamrah. After having performed Ramee, return to Makka and stay for a while at Mohassab and pray. Now the Hajje Qiraan is complete. After that, perform Tawafe Wida¡¯ as Mufrid does.

How to perform Tamattu¡¯
Put on the Ihraam for Umrah and perform it in the months of Hajj. After completing Umrah get the hair of head shaved and remove the Ihraam if you do not carry Hadi (animal to offer for sacrifice). Thereafter, stay in Haram and do not go out. At the time of Hajj, put on the Ihraam for Hajj preferably from Masjid-e-Haram and go to Mina on 8th Zilhijjah. Perform all the other parts of Hajj as Mufrid and Mutamtti¡¯ do. It should be carried in mind that there are some conditions for performing Tamattu¡¯ which are not stated herein.

2) The wealth earned by Halaal sources must be used for performing Hajj. The Hajj performed by Haraam earning will not be accepted though one gets rid of performing obligatory Hajj.

3) A person who is wealthy and unable to perform obligatory Hajj personally should order, immediately, someone or leave a will for his successors to get Hajj performed on his/her behalf. It is correct if the children perform Hajj on behalf of their parents after their death even without their will or permission. The expenses of Hajje Badal should be born by the person on whose behalf the Hajj is being performed or his heirs. To make Niyyah for Hajj at the time of putting on Ihraam should be on behalf of the person on whose behalf the Hajj is being performed. Otherwise, the Hajj will not be considered as Hajj-e-Badal. It is appreciable that the person performing Hajj-e-Badal is such a person who is aware of the Masyeel of Hajj and has already performed his obligatory Hajj.

4) The obligation of performing Hajj is based on some conditions, which are common for both man and woman. Beside this, there are some particular conditions for women only. One of them is the company of Mahrm (one with whom marriage is not allowed forever) or husband whether she is young or old when the journey takes more than three days. The Prophet of Islam (SAW) is reported as having said:

¡°A man should not get together with a woman in a separate place, and a woman should not travel without her Mahram.¡± (Mishkaat 221)

According to the Hanfi school of thought, the performing of Hajj is prohibited for a woman who is not accompanied by her Mahram or husband. She should send, without any delay, a person to perform Hajj on behalf of her, or draw up a will for Hajj-e-Badal (performing Hajj on behalf of other) after her death. (Al-b
