Dear Brother in Islam, Mr M B Qasmi,

asak,

After remaining out on my business trip I came back today and had time to read your reply. Thanks a lot for your response. Although some of the things you've is said is correct, I still think that there are some points which need further explanation. It is because u've not quoted references of the books etc. You being a knowledgeable person, and not an illiterate like me, what I expected that your reply would contain a lot of references from Holy Quran and AHADEES. However, this feature remained missing when I read your mail. Still, Mr Qasmi, from ur points, it seems u r a scholar, so let's not make it personal. Let us deal with this in a scholarly manner.

Look at the absurdity of ur rubbish hadeeth about khutbatul Ghadeer, which was the work of Abu Sufiyan n Bani Umaiyyah clad who did everything 2 defame Hazrat Ali(AS), but still were not able 2 influence the minds of momineen, who still recognise Ali(AS) as Imam, Khalifah and leader, moula as declared by our very own Prophet,Hazrat Rasool (saw). Mr Qasmi, just think for a while, just because of the likely defamation of his brother Ali (AS) by some munafeqeen, our Prophet (puh) would give more than 3 hrs of long speech in the praise of him and that too under the intense heat of the sun and in open desert? And then God would also give so much importance to the munafiq,s statement of defaming Hazrat Ali that He would declare "Al-yauma akmaltu lakum deenokum¡¡¡: yes"> people gathered at ghadeer-e-khum and the Prophet (pbuh) openly declared the Rasool's successorship in favour of Hazrat Ali(AS) and nobody else. Rest of all things, other than these facts, r all fabricated and inspired by the petty tactics of Bani Umayyad clad 2 finish Islam or at least make it deformed and deshaped so that a person like Yazeed may be declared as Islamic Caliph¡.laa-haula wala¡¡¡

(The detail write up of the questioner has been shorten, by the ONLINE DARUL IFTA ADMIN. The main question clearly came out from his long write up is, was Umar elligible for Khilafat? according to the questioner he was surlly not. Below reply would be on the basis his references, he quated while proving his views, MB Q

Dear Brother in Islam, the explanation of the points you referred for more clarification is stated as therein:

The enemies of Islam have been leaving no stone unturned to distort Islam. They try their utmost to misinterpret the verses of the Glorious Qur¡¯aan and the sayings of the Prophet (SAW). Their efforts divided Muslim communities into groups and gave birth to several sects. One of these sects is Shi¡¯aism. During the last period of Hazrat Uthman¡¯s (RA) Caliphate, a Jew, Abdullah Ibne Saba traveled different states of Muslims to deform Islam. At the end, he reached Egypt where he raised the issue of Imamat and said that every prophet had a Wasee (successor) and Ali was the Wasee of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW). Muhammad (SAW) is the last and final Prophet and Ali is the last Wasee. He spread venom against the first and second Caliph of Islam saying that who could be more oppressor than one who did not implement the Wasiyat (testament) of the Prophet (SAW) and seized the right of Hazrat Ali (RA). He further stated that Uthman (RA) illegally, overcame the Caliphate. The Wasee of the Prophet (SAW) is the eligible for this post. You are responsible to give the right to its owner. Besides, he sent people to several states with the message of Imamat, And thus Shi¡¯aism came into existence. (For more detail, see Tarikh-e-Tabri & Tarikh-e-Ibne Khaldoon, Al-Bidayah Wannihayah, Khelafatu Amiril Mo¡¯mineen Ali Ibne Abi Talib VO: 7 P: 225) Shia people overestimate Hazrat Ali (RA) and underestimate the other companions. As a result, they consider all the companions Kaafir (Al-Iazubillah) except Hazrat Ali (RA) and a few others. They invented a series of Ahadith in favour of Ali and his family and in defamation of the other companions. But how can the enemies of Islam materialize their dreams when Allah Almighty Himself takes the responsibility to safeguard the teachings of Islam. He says in the Glorious Qur¡¯aan, ¡°We have sent down this exposition and We will guard it¡±. (Suratul Hijr 15 V: 9) Islam, by the grace of Allah Almighty will prevail over all religions even though the enemies detest its success. The Lofty Qur¡¯aan says, ¡°It is He who sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth in order to prevail it over all religions, even though the idolaters may not like it¡±. (Suratut Tawba 9 V: 33) May Allah be pleased with those Muhadditheen (doctors of Hadith) who worked for separating authentic Ahadith from fake and false sayings and compiling the complete life of every narrator. Had they not carried out this work Islam would have lost its real form like other religions.

The companions of the Prophet (SAW) played a tremendous role to spread Islam all over the world. Though they do not hold the value that the Prophet does but cannot be compared even with a righteous and pious Muslim rather to point the finger at their majesty. The Prophet of Islam (SAW) is reported to have said, ¡°Do not abuse my companions. For, if any of you spends gold to an extent of Uhud Hill, will not reach a Mudd (a measure for grain) or its half (spent) by any of them (companions)¡± (Muslim Baabu Laa Tasubbo Ashabi VO: 2 P: 310) Yes, as human beings, they committed, incidentally some mistakes. But Allah Almighty forgave them and became pleased with them forever. He says in the Glorious Qur¡¯aan, ¡°Allah will say, ¡®This is the day when the truthful shall profit by their truthfulness. For them will be gardens with streams running by, where they will forever abide.¡¯ Allah is well-pleased with them and they with Allah. This surely, is the great triumph¡±. (Suratul Maeidah 5 V: 119) Having listened to this announcement, a Muslim who submits himself before the will of Allah Almighty never will dream to defame the companions.

Brother Khawar, Ahadith are the interpretation of the Glorious Qur¡¯aan. And Islam is based on this Lofty Book. So, disregarding Ahadith is rejecting the Glorious Qur¡¯aan. Can a Muslim think of refusing authentic Ahadith? The books of Ahadith, particularly Siha-e-Sittah, do on spoil the characters of the companions of the Prophet (SAW). You might have seen that all of these six books consist of a particular chapter regarding the virtues of the companions. But whom should we blame, brother, when we misinterpret these Sahih Ahadith to serve our own purposes. However, this misinterpretation and invention is not a new phenomena but this underway process is continuation of the same process which was taking place in the period of the companions as it has been stated earlier.

Brother, you said that the Prophet (SAW) openly declared his successorship in favour of Ali (RA) at Ghadeer-e-Khumm. While presenting your views it was not wise for you to mention such a controversial issue without any reference. I am in search of this saying and do not succeed to find it out. It would be your kind consideration if you guide me to this saying. I also humbly request you, brother Khawar to quote from the authentic references the complete two hours long speech of the Prophet (SAW), which he delivered, according to you, under the intense heat of the sun and in open desert in the praise of Ali (RA) where (Al-Iazubillah) Munafiqeen were present. For, I did not find the whole image you drew concerning this speech in authentic books of the Ahadith. As per my search, the Prophet of Islam (SAW) delivered a short speech in the presence of his devotees at Ghadeer-e-Khumm while returning from Makkah after completing Hajjatul Wdah¡¯. Before quoting the speech form authentic sources, I would like to inform you that the authenticity of the Hadith concerning the speech of Ghadeer-e-Khumm is controversial amongst the Muhadditeen. Imam Bukhari does not report this Hadith while Imam Muslim narrates the speech but it does not consist of the words on which the argument is based. However, as a matter of fact, though this is not Mutawtir, is authentic because of the narrative of several companions. The Hadith is as follows:

Imam Muslim (RH) reports on the authority of Zaid Ibne Arqam (RA) that after praising Allah Almighty the Prophet of Islam (SAW) said, ¡°O, people! Indeed, I am a human being. The messenger of my Sustainer may come to me and I will accept (the message). I am leaving two great things amongst you. The first thing is the book of Allah, which carries guidance and light. So, holdfast the Book of Allah and take guidance from it. The Prophet (SAW) urged people on following the Book of Allah and then he said, ¡°And second one is my family. I warn you about my family¡±. (Muslim, Babum Min Fazayeli Ali Ibne Abi Talib (RA), VO: 2 P: 279) See bother Khawar, Imam Muslim mentioned nothing about Ali (RA). However, Imam Tirmizi, Ahmad and Tabri (RH) narrate the speech on the authority of Zaid Ibne Arqam with different words where they mentioned Ali (RA). The speech says, ¡°O, people! Verily Allah is my Maula and I am Maula of Momineen. And I am better for them than their ownselves. So, he (Ali) is the Maula of those whom I am Maula. O, Allah! Love those people who love Ali and keep enmity with those who treat Ali as an enemy¡±. (Tirmizi, Manqibo Ali Ibne Abi Talib V: 2 P: 212)

Let¡¯s find out the reason of delivering this speech. According to you some Munafiqeen, Abu Sufiyan and Bani Umaiyyah tried to defame Ali (RA). So the Prophet (SAW) delivered the speech in the praise of Ali (RA) and showed his station. Would you explain who is Munafiq in the view of Shariah and why do you count Abu Sufiyan and Bani Umaiyyah in the fold of Munafiqeen? How do you prove this statement? On the contrary of your statement, Hafiz Ibne Hajr Makkee writes that Hafiz Shamshuddeen Jazree relates on the authority of Ibne Ishaaq that some of the companions who went to Yamn with Ali (RA) got angry with him. A Hadith of Bukhari (VO: 2 Babu Ba¡¯the Ali Ibne Abi Talib Wa Khalid Ibnil Walid Ilal Yaman Qabla Hujjatil Wada¡¯ P: 623) supports this view too. It says that some dealing of Ali (RA) sowed the seed of enmity in Buraida (RA). The Prophet (SAW) removed this bitter relationship between Ali and Buraida (RA) by delivering a short speech. Hafiz Zahabi supports this narration of Bukhari and writes that Buraida (RA) complained to the Prophet (SAW) against Hazrat Ali (RA). On listening to the complaint, the face of the Prophet (SAW) turned yellow. Hazrat Buraida (RA) himself narrates that the Prophet (SAW) said, ¡°O, Buraida! Am I not better for Momineen than their ownselves? ¡°Apparently yes, O, Messenger of Allah¡± I said. ¡°Ali is Maula of those whom I am Maula¡± he said.

Moreover, it is to be noted that whether the word Maula means Imam or Caliph? As per my little knowledge the word, Maula has different meanings such as Mu¡¯tiq, Atique, Nasir, Mahboob and Mutasarrif Fil Amr, but none of them is the meaning of Imamat or caliphate. For the time being if we consider that Maula means Imam as well, it will not imply that Ali (RA) was Imamul Momineen at the time when the Prophet (SAW) said this sentence. Since, the Prophet (SAW) was alive at that time. Definitely it means that Ali (RA) will be Imam after taking oath. How can it be justified that the immediate Imamat and Caliphate of Ali after the Prophet is proved by this Hadith against the first and second Caliph of Islam. It is surprising enough that the Shiah people quote this Hadith to prove the Imamat of Ali (RA) but they do not think that neither Ali (RA), Abbas (RA) nor any Bano Hashim and other Sahabi did refer to this Hadith when the discussion on the issue of caliphate was held after the Prophet. All the great Ansar and Muhajir Sahaba and notably those who were present at the speech of Ghadeer-e-Khumm participated the discussion held at Saqifa Bani Saayidah. And the discussion took place just two months after the speech of Ghadeer-e-Khumm but none had cited the speech as a reference to the matter of leadership. Yes of course, they quoted this Hadith as attribute of Ali (RA) when the differences took place in his Caliphate.

Besides, Hazrat Ali (RA) time and again said that the Prophet (SAW) did not select anybody for Imamat or caliphate. Muslims select their Imam and caliph by mutual consultation. Several Ahadith are reported from Ali (RA) on this very chapter. Imam Zahabi writes that Bazzaz reports on the authority of Hasan that Hazrat Ali (RA) was requested to choose his caliph. He said that he would not select his caliph but people would do as the Prophet left this issue on the opinions of his Sahaba. Imam Dar Qutni, Ibne Asakir and Zahabi narrate on the authority of Ali (RA) that he said in Basra, ¡°By Allah, the Prophet did not give me any world. Had he given his word we would have not permitted our brother Bani Tamim Ibne Marrah and Umar Ibnul Khattab delivering speech on the pulpit of the Prophet (SAW) but waged war against them¡±. (For more detail, see Muslim Babul Istakhlaaf Wa Tarkuho VO: 2 P: 120, Al-Bidayah Wnnihayah, Khalfatu Abi Bakr Wama Fiha Minal Hawadith VO: 8 P: 302) Abu Nayeem reports that Hasanul Musannah was tolled that ¡°Mun Kuntu¡¡± is proof for the Imamat and caliphate of Hazrat Ali (RA). He said by Allah, had the Prophet (SAW) wanted to choose Imam or caliph by Maula he would have used clearer word than that of Maula. For, he was Fasihul Bayan (eloquent). Brother Khawar, Do you believe that a devotee of the Prophet (SAW) and a brave person like Ali (RA) would keep silence on the issue of Imamat knowing that the Prophet (SAW) had selected him as a Caliph? After all, this Hadith does not prove the Imamat or caliphate of Ali (RA) otherwise the Sahab, Bano Hashim, Hazrat Ali and Hazrat Abbas (RA) would have deferred but they did not.

Dear Brother, you are of the opinion that the books of Ahadith show the bad characters of the good people; the companions of the Prophet. I do not agree with you. As I earlier mentioned that all the books of the Ahadith particularly the Siha-e-sittah consist of a particular chapter about the merits of the companions. For your information, I quote some Ahadith regarding the virtues of Umar (RA). Here are these Ahadith:

(1) Hazrat Abu Hurairah (RA) reports that the Prophet of Islam (SAW) said, ¡°Amongst the nations before you there used to be people who were inspired (though they were not prophets). And if there is any of such person amongst my followers, it is Umar¡±. (Bukhari VO: 1 Babu Manaqibi Umar Ibnul Kattaab P: 521)

(2) It is narrated on the authority of Abu Mosa (RA) he said, ¡°While I was with the Prophet in one of the gardens of Medina, a man came and asked me to open the gate. The Prophet said to me, ¡°Open the gate for him and give him the glad tidings that he would enter paradise. ¡° I opened (the gate) for him, and behold! It was Abu Bakr. I informed him of the glad tidings that the Prophet had said, and he praised Allah. Then another man came and asked me to open the gate. The Prophet said to me, ¡°Open (the gate) and give him the glad tidings of entering paradise.¡± I opened (the gate) for him, and behold! It was Umar. I informed him of what the prophet had said, and he praised Allah. Then another man came and asked me to open the gate. The Prophet said to me, ¡°Open (the gate) for him and inform him of the glad tiding of entering paradise with a calamity which will befall him.¡± I behold! It was Uthman. I informed him of what Allah¡¯s Apostle had said. He praised Allah and said, ¡°I seek Allah¡¯s aid¡±. (Ibid P: 522)

(3) It is narrated on the authority of Abu Waqqas (RA) that his father informed him, ¡°Umar bin AlKhattab asked permission of Allah¡¯s Apostle to see him while some Quraishi women were sitting with him, talking to him and asking him for more expenses, raising their voices over the voice of Allah¡¯s Apostle. When Umar asked for the permission to enter, the women quickly put on their veils. Allah¡¯s Apostle allowed him to enter and Umar came in while Allah¡¯s Apostle was smiling, Umar said, ¡°O, Allah¡¯s Apostle! May Allah always keep you smiling¡± The Prophet said, ¡°These women who have been here, roused my wonder, for as soon as they heard your voice, they quickly put on their veils. ¡°Umar said, ¡°O, Allah¡¯s Apostle! You have more right to be feared by them than I¡±. Then Umar addressed the women saying, ¡°O, enemies of yourselves! You fear me more than you do Allah¡¯s Apostle¡±. They said, ¡°Yes, for you are harsher and sterner than Allah¡¯s Apostle¡±. Then Allah¡¯s Apostle said, ¡°O, Ibn Al-Khattab! By Him in whose hands my life is! Never does Satan find you going on a way, but he takes another way other than yours¡±. (Ibid P: 520)

(4) Hazrat Ibne Umar (RA) narrates that the Prophet (SAW) said, ¡°Verily, Allah Almighty revealed truth on the tongue and heart of Umar¡±. (Tirmizi Babu Manaqibi Abi Hafs Umar Ibnul Kattaab VO: 2 P: 209)

(5) Hazrat Ibne Abbas (RA) reports that the Prophet (SAW) said, ¡°O, Allah! Strengthen Islam by (embracing Islam of) Abu Jahl Ibne Hisham or Umar Ibne Khattaab. The (next) morning Umar came to meet the Prophet and embraced Islam. Then he offered Salaah in the Mosque openly¡±. (Ibid)

(6) Hazrat Ibne Abbas (RA) relates that when (the dead body of) Umar was put on his deathbed. The people gathered around him and invoked (Allah) and prayed for him before the body was taken away, and I was amongst them. Suddenly I felt somebody taking hold of my shoulder and found out that he was Ali bin AbiTalib. Ali invoked Allah¡¯s mercy for Umar and said, ¡°O, Umar! You have not left behind you a person whose deeds I like to imitate and meet Allah with more than I like your deeds. By Allah! I always thought that Allah would keep you with your two companions, for very often I used to hear the Prophet saying, ¡°I, Abu Bakr and Umar entered (somewhere); and I, Abu Bakr and Umar went out¡±. (Bukhari VO: 1 Babu Manaqibi Umar Ibnul Kattaab: P: 520-21)

Brother khawar, reflect over the fact, that lovers of Hazrat Ali insult and criticize the companions and particularly Umar (RA) when Ali himself showed love, affection and respect to Umar in an extent mentioned in the above Hadith. I believe you will say these people are digging their own graves spoiling the characters of the companions particularly the first and the second caliph of Islam on the name of Ali (RA).

Brother, you cited some Ahadith from Bukhari and other books of Ahadith but I could not find them. Therefore, I request you to inform me about these Ahadith mentioning the name of the Bab, such as ¡®Badu Badvil Wahi¡¯ and ¡®Kitabul Imaan¡¯ if possible mention the Nos. Ahadith and publications etc. so that I can easily find them out.

And Allah knows the best,

Writt
