Assalamualaikum. 1.If a person says that quran can be understood without hadeeths and sunnah (and there is no need of hadeeths and sunnah at all) can he remaun a muslim. Does it not imply that he does not believe rasoolullah sallahu alaihi wa salam?
If a person makes mockery of beard, after seeing the authentic ahadeeths, by saying 'Let us go beyond beard and mustaches', can he remain a muslim?

Dear Brother in Islam,
The answer of your questions is as follows:
1. Hadith is the explanation of the Glorious QurĄŻan. Allah almighty says, Ą° And we have sent down unto you (also) the message; that you should explain clearly for them, and that they may give thoughtĄ±. (Annahal: 16 V: 44) Again in the same chapter verse 64 Allah almighty says, Ą° And We sent down the book to you so that you should make clear to them those things in which they differ, and that it should be a guide and a mercy to those who believeĄ±.

It is impossible to understand the Glorious QurĄŻan for the purpose it was revealed without Ahadith. The Glorious QurĄŻan says in numerous places to establish Salah, fore stance, but it does not mention the methods for establishing. It is the Hadith that mentions the methods for establishing Salah. There are many verses of the Glorious QurĄŻaan that require explanations. And the Prophet (Sullallahu Alaihi Wasallam) explained the QurĄŻaan by his saying, practising and keeping silent on the exercise of Sahaba (Razi Allah Anhum) done before him. Therefore, it is impossible to understand the Glorious QurĄŻaan in the approved manner without Ahadith.

One who says that the Glorious QurĄŻaan can be understood without Ahadith but does not reject the authenticity of Ahadith is still a Muslim. Since the denial authenticity of Ahadith or making mockery of them cause Kufr (infidelity) and he does not do so. But he will prove a danger for himself as well as for other Muslims by misleading them. The Glorious QurĄŻan says, Ą° By it He causes many to stray, and many He leads into the right path; but He causes not to stray, except those who forsake (the path)Ą± (Baqarah: 2 V: 26)

Of course, one who does not believe in Ahadith as a source to understand Islam he also does not believe in the Glorious QurĄŻan. For, the authenticity of Ahadith is proved by the QurĄŻaan. It says, Ą°Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) desire. It is no less than inspiration sent down to himĄ±. (An-Najam: 53 V3-4)

Thus QurĄŻaan and Ahadith cannot be separated from each other. When Hazrat Aaysha (Razi Allahu Anha) was asked about the behaviours of the Prophet (Sullallahu Alaihi Wasallam), she replied, Ą° Do you not recite the Glorious QurĄŻaan. It says, Ą° In deed there is an excellent exempler in the Messenger of Allah for him who hopes in Allah and the final day, and who remembers Allah muchĄ±. (Ahzab: 33 V: 21) Then Aaysha (Razi Allahu Anha) said that the Glorious QurĄŻan was his behaviour. A Muslim cannot be a Muslim until and unless he believes in the Glorious QurĄŻan and Ahadith because they are the roots of Islam.

2. Keeping beard and cutting moustaches are Wajib (binding upon). One who shaves beard and grows moustaches is committing a major sin and he will earn the wrath of Allah almighty. But one who does not grow beard and makes mockery of it he should repent to Allah almighty sincerely for this kind of heinous act and renew his Iman and marriage if he is married. For, making mockery of religion and its teachings is Kufr (infidelity). (Shami published by Maktaba-e-Rashidia V: 3 P: 310-311)
