Dear brother in Islam,
Assalaamu alaikum wa Rahmatullah

Backbiting is an evil of the tongue about which The Glorious Qur'an says in Chapter 49,Verse 12,''Nor speak ill of each other behind their backs. Would any of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? Nay, ye would abhor itĄbut fear Allah, for Allah is Oft-returning, most Merciful.'' There are many sayings of the Prophet (peace be upon him) which prohibit backbiting strictly. The Prophet is reported to have said, ''Every Muslim is unlawful to another Muslim - his blood, his property and his honour (Muslim shareef). Backbiting takes away the honour of a Muslim and therefore, is Haraam.'' In another Hadeeth the Prophet says,'' Backbiting is greater than fornication'' (Albaihaquee). In both the Qura'an and the sayings of the Prophet backbiting is regarded to be a great sin and leads backbiter to Hell. Allah does not pardon it till the backbitten person pardons him as it concerns with Huqooqul Ibaad (Human Rights).

May Allah give you courage to ask them not to backbite, but do this noble work politely and with wisdom and make Du'a for them to abandon this dangerous habit because they are your brothers, therefore you have to think good of them.

Please note that the reply to your second question will appear under topic Masajid and Madaris.

Allah knows the best
